The LANTITE test, in brief
The LANTITE is two computer-based tests, literacy and numeracy, each 65 questions in 120 minutes. Its full name is the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education, and ACER runs it on the Australian Government's behalf. It measures your own literacy and numeracy, not your teaching. The standard: the top 30% of Australian adults.
You're expected to make a first attempt before the end of your first year. You can also sit it before you enrol, even in Year 11 or 12.

Format from ACER's published test information, checked 25 October 2026. Our question counts follow ACER's own practice tests.
On test day, 60 of the 65 questions count. The other 5 are unscored trial questions, and ACER's 2024 assessment framework doesn't say which. We score all 65, as ACER's own practice tests do. Nothing is deducted for a wrong answer, so never leave a blank: a guess costs you nothing, and a blank always scores zero.
Eight full forms at launch, four for each test. Every question on them is ours, written in ACER's published formats; ACER's live questions stay secure and change every sitting. Format by format, the LANTITE practice test page covers what each form puts in front of you.
How it works
- Sign up and choose. Free, no card. Pick literacy or numeracy for your free full test.
- Learn the screen. A short untimed tutorial gives you one question in each answer format, with the numbered boxes across the top, Next, the calculator and the section lock. Then the 120-minute clock starts.
- Sit it in one go. There's no flag button, because ACER describes none; ACER's advice is to note the question number and come back to it. The clock runs on our server, so closing the tab doesn't stop it, and your answers are waiting when you return. At 120:00 the test submits itself.
- See where you stand. Your score out of 65, your band against the standard (our estimate) and the first three rows of your breakdown. Elite opens every row, all eight forms and a review of every question.
See where you stand
ACER's statement of results shows no score: only whether you met the standard, with a band for each sub-domain. Your practice result shows the numbers.
Sample run · Numeracy · Form A
| Sub-domain | Score | Below the standard | Around the standard | Above the standard |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Numeracy overall | 44/65 | 0–37 | 38–49 (your level) | 50–65 |
| Number and Algebra | 24/30 | 0–17 | 18–23 | 24–30 (your level) |
| Measurement and Geometry | 10/16 | 0–9 | 10–12 (your level) | 13–16 |
Practice result from our model — not an ACER result. ACER publishes no pass mark; it reports only whether you met the standard.
Cut-offs follow the raw-score ranges ACER publishes for its own practice tests, which ACER calls indicative, not determinative.
Bands are always our estimate: Below, Around or Above the standard, for each test and for each of the seven sub-domains on your ACER statement. A run in the Around band carries this line: "Runs in this band often fall short of the standard on the day." Once 30 candidates have completed a form, Elite adds your percentile among their first attempts. The cut-offs and the rules behind them are on how we score.
What rides on it
No pass, no graduation. Your university can't graduate you from an accredited teaching degree, undergraduate or postgraduate, until you've met the standard in both tests or shown recognised First Nations language proficiency. In NSW you must also meet it before your final professional experience placement, and since 1 August 2026 before NESA grants Conditional accreditation. In Victoria it comes before provisional registration.
Attempts have been unlimited since 2025, but every one has a fee: A$98 per test (A$196 for both) in 2026. There are only four test windows a year, and results take about four weeks after a window closes. Miss the standard and you re-sit the whole component, because sub-domain results don't carry over.
So rehearse before you register. Next up is 2027 Window 1: registration 12–25 January, test 15–28 February 2027 (dates checked 25 October 2026). Every window and deadline is on LANTITE test dates.

Questions
Does PassToTeach use ACER's questions? No. Every question is ours, written in the formats ACER publishes. ACER's live questions are secure and change every sitting, and its practice material belongs to ACER.
Is the free test the full length? Yes. All 65 questions and the full 120 minutes, after the untimed tutorial; a free numeracy test includes both sections and the lock between them.
Does a practice result tell me how I'll go on the day? No. Practice result from our model — not an ACER result. ACER publishes no pass mark; it reports only whether you met the standard. What a practice result can do is point you at your weakest sub-domain.
Is PassToTeach part of ACER? No. PassToTeach is an independent practice tool, not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by ACER, the Australian Government Department of Education, AITSL, or any university or teacher regulatory authority. ACER doesn't recommend or endorse any commercial course, ours included.
